1Reading Wis 6,12-16 Psalm 62 2Reading 1Tes 4,13-18 Gospel Mt 25,1-13
To search for the Lord, to be ready for him, to invest in the reign of heaven:
these are the proposed themes of today's Readings. The Responsorial Psalm express
our deep desire: "O God, you are my God, for you I long, my soul thirst for
you, my body desires you"! And the First Reading from the Book of Wisdom answers
to this desire. God himself comes down to us! He is thought as "the Wisdom",
highlighting with this terminology one of the fruits of his presence in our life.
This Wisdom "let itself to be found by those who look for it", and is
precious because it enriches the life of those who find it because they don't look
for anything except it.
In the parable of Jesus, the persons who want to meet their God are said to be like
virgins who await the groom to partake in his wedding feast and form a train with
others with whom they go to meet with the spouse. All want to partake in the feast,
but not all in the same way. Some prepare themselves, not wanting to dedicate themselves
to another thing, having nothing more important to do than this. Other, instead,
busied their time, hence their heart, with that superficiality, that distracted
them from meeting with the groom. When he arrives they are not ready and they have
no time and way to prepare themselves. The meeting with the groom and the search
for Wisdom in the First Reading want to help us think seriously about our life.
It is precious, a great gift, because we are destined to eternity: therefore it
is to be lived seriously.
St. Paul speaks to us about Jesus who dies and is raised up to go before us and
welcome us in his joy, which is the one of God the Father. Our life here is the
preparation for a life of which we don't know anything, but we know that it is full
and glorious, like the life Jesus received in his ressurection. He himself shall
come to meet us and welcome us. Keeping him in mind, we dispose ourselves for this.
Whatever we do shall receive power and light from this desire. Our life wont be
empty, but would go in search of another meaning for what we do and for the experiences
we live, because everything shall be in view of that final meeting.
Around us there are many who do not know why they struggle, work, move. This lack
of meaning of what one lives, creates dissipation, unhappiness, delusion, emptiness
and aloneness. We, with our sure orientation of wanting to search for Wisdom and
to meet with the Groom, are of a great help to our brethren. Our assurance and our
consolation will be for all a help to see far away, to raise their heads above what
passes by.
We ourselves need to be always ready, vigilant, directed towards the One who is
coming. His coming is sure, even though we dont know the time and the place chosen
by him to meet us. His coming is not to scare us because he comes to give us the
fulness of his love, to introduce us to the eternal feast. Let us wait for him with
love and joy: it's the only way that keep us ready, vigilant.
